Alentejo
The most genuine destination of Portugal
Alentejo
The plains that extend as far as the eye can see start close to the Tagus. While to the north, the pace is set by the green of the flatlands, further south the landscape combines with the sun, the heat and a slower pace of life. This is the Alentejo.
To the north, the pastures of the marshlands; in the vast interior, unending flatness, and fields of wheat waving in the wind; at the coast, wild, beautiful beaches waiting to be discovered.
Évora
Located in the heart of the Alentejo region, Évora is a city brimming with history and charm. Its historical monuments, such as the Temple of Diana and Évora Cathedral, narrate the rich history of the region. The narrow, winding streets of the historic center invite tourists to explore its local craft shops and savor the delicious Alentejo cuisine in its traditional restaurants. Additionally, Évora is known for its quality wines, offering visitors the opportunity to participate in tastings at local wineries.
Castelo de Vide
Nestled in the verdant hills of the Alto Alentejo region, Castelo de Vide is a medieval town that seems to have stopped in time. Its charming historic center is dominated by an imposing castle, from where stunning views of the surrounding landscape can be enjoyed. The narrow, cobbled streets are lined with white houses adorned with colorful flowers, creating a picturesque and tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can explore the alleys and lanes of the town, visit the ancient synagogue, and relax in the lush gardens of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, which surrounds the town.
Marvão
Perched atop a steep hill, Marvão is a fortified village that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Alentejo plains and neighboring Spain. Its medieval walls and well-preserved castle transport visitors back to the times of knights and kings.
